About
I am currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Luxembourg, and have taught at Simon Fraser University and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
My interests are very broad but related to the myths of development, the promises of planning and the political economy. This has led, for example, to investigations of the impact of foreign direct investment on industrial structures in auto manufacturing in Eastern Europe (via lean production) as well as the study of natural-resource management, foreign ownership, and community development in British Columbia. I am particularly interested in innovation, socio-economic systems and the impact of economic organization on 'development'. I am currently exploring questions of governance related to environmental policy, planning and energy privatization in British Columbia and Poland. I am also very interested in the political economy of the city and the possibilities and critiques of urban planning and design.
I have taught a number of first through fourth year undergraduate courses, mostly in geography and focused on the relationship between industrial/economic dynamics and development, resource and environmental planning and conflict as well as a number of field trips and currently a field study to explore the socio-economic transformations in Eastern Europe.
I love to teach, I love to travel, I love varied work and I am willing to entertain any contacts, offers and requests that involve an interesting, interdisciplinary challenge. Please get in touch!
